Chipotle Fan Order of the Week #1: Submit Yours
A new weekly feature where we spotlight real reader orders. First up: mine.
There’s something universal about having “your order” at Chipotle. Ask anyone who eats there regularly and they won’t just tell you their protein, they’ll tell you the whole build, exactly how they say it at the counter, sometimes with a story attached. Starting this week, we’re turning that into a series. Every Friday, we’ll feature a real order from a real reader: what they get, how they build it, and why it’s theirs.
To kick things off, I’m going first. Partly to show you the format, and partly because it only seemed fair.
This Week’s Order: Marcus Rivera, Chicago
The Order
- Base: Burrito bowl, white rice
- Beans: Black beans
- Protein: Barbacoa
- Salsas: Tomatillo green salsa, a little roasted chili corn salsa on the side
- Toppings: Cheese, sour cream, lettuce
- Extras: Guacamole, mixed in rather than on top
Why I Order This
Barbacoa and tomatillo green salsa is one of those pairings that works for a real reason, not just habit. The green salsa gets its tang from tomatillos roasted and blended with jalapeños, garlic, and lime, and that acidity is exactly what cuts through a rich, slow-braised meat like barbacoa. It’s the same logic as squeezing lime over braised short rib: fattier, deeper-flavored meats need something bright to balance them out, or they start to feel heavy by the third bite. Mild salsa would get lost next to barbacoa. The green salsa doesn’t.
